Billing
Tax-exempt churches
Production Deck is sold through Polar, our reseller and merchant of record. Polar works out the sales tax for your state, collects it, and handles exemptions. Exemption certificates therefore go to Polar, not to us. It takes one email.
Will we be charged sales tax?
That depends on your state. Many states don't tax software subscriptions at all, so many churches never see tax at checkout. Where tax applies, checkout shows it before you pay.
What you need
- A sales tax exemption certificate issued by your state, for example Texas Form 01-339. An IRS 501(c)(3) letter alone usually isn't enough, and some states don't exempt church purchases at all.
- The order number from the receipt email Polar sends after you subscribe.
- The church's legal name, entered at checkout exactly as it appears on the certificate.
How it works
- Subscribe as usual
Use the church's legal name at checkout. Yearly billing means one payment a year.
- Email your certificate to Polar
Fill in the form below to write the email, attach your certificate, and send it to support@polar.sh.
- Polar refunds the tax
Polar reviews the certificate, refunds the sales tax on your payment to the original card, and marks your subscription tax-exempt so renewals aren't taxed. Polar usually replies within one to two business days.
Write the email
This form only fills in an email in your own mail app. Nothing is sent from this page.
Questions
Can the tax be removed before we pay?
Not yet. Polar applies exemptions to a subscription after the first payment and refunds the tax on that payment. Once your subscription is marked exempt, renewals aren't taxed.
Our certificate expired, or our church changed its name.
Send the new certificate to Polar the same way, with your order number.
We have more than one campus.
Each campus has its own subscription. Send one email that lists every order number, with the certificate that covers each campus.
